You ever thought you might be dying, but not at all scared about it?

I spent the closing months of 2016 and the opening week of 2017 concerned that I may have a terminal illness. Imagine going to your Dr. for something specific, but he changes the subject. He takes in minimal information in regards to your current visit and constantly refers back to an historical visit from 9 months ago.
Dr: “Did you receive all your results from your last series of tests?”

Me: “huh, I’ve come here today because I’m”

(Dr interrupts me)

Dr: “One of your test results…… for some reason wasn’t given back to you and we need to book you for an appointment ASAP, as the results show some abnormalities”

What occurred after this dialogue, is I asked him what was the abnormalities. He replied, but it all sounded like hospital jargon, a series of words I’d never heard and couldn’t spell. I left the GP that day baffled, but unmoved. To be honest, I was a little bit happy to have a day off work.

Note: For the sake of my own privacy I won’t divulge the exact happenings, but I’ll share enough for you to get the gist of things.

So as instructed, I went to the hospital, I got a cab up there as it was a hospital a considerable distance further than my usual one. On that specific day, I had a series of test which I definitely was not prepped for. Once concluded I scheduled in a biopsy and minor procedure. A week later the biopsy and procedure took place, I opted to be awake, why? I’ll never know because that process may have been minor by name but it wasn’t minor in pain lol.

I’m going to skip out a big chunk here otherwise it’ll take away from where I’m going with this. Ultimately the Dr’s were being very reserved with the information they were given me. Although one blatantly said we don’t know what’s wrong, but we will be checking for cancer and Crohn’s disease.

For 3 weeks I was walking around thinking, I may have some serious illness, I played it down to my parents and just got on with life.

Truth be told I wasn’t scared, not even a little bit. I received a word from God many years ago that said I won’t die until I have carried out the purpose laid upon my life. To be very clear, I have no idea when I’m going to die and I really pray it’s not before age 80 but I hope when I do I’ve made God proud and fulfilled his purpose for my life.
I spoke in a previous post ……. about how someone tried to kill me, well that was one of 4 instances where in all honesty I shouldn’t even be writing this post. After the most recent time it took 2 years for me to realise that God spared me as with that situation God spoke to me and instructed me to do something that ultimately saved my life. I will soon go into all four events, but that’s for another day.

So what is Purpose?

Definition: The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

How to identify your purpose/callings

In essence, we all have the same calling. Which is to be followers and disciples of Jesus Christ, spread the gospel and obey the word of God. In addition to that, we all have our own individual callings. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 10 says

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

So many people have a sense of emptiness and worthlessness. One cause for this may be they are yet to identify God’s purpose for their lives. I love the story of Esther in the bible she was called to save the Jews, sadly it took a long while for her to call on God and fully comprehend that was her purpose. She constantly prayed for her heart desires until Modecai instructed her to pray for what God wants of her instead. It was then she was able to identify her purpose after a frustratingly long period. The end result was she proceeded to save a nation of Jews.

Our God given purposes can be identified in many ways. Sometimes by a prophecy from someone else or from our own encounters with God. Now just because someone gives you a word doesn’t mean that it’s set in stone or you should begin to enforce it. I was first told about my calling 14/15 years ago and because of how I was living my life I never put myself in a position to execute it. However, as you lean on God more he will open doors for you that will put you in a position to fulfil your calling. He will assign you in places where you will hear something and automatically you’ll have a eureka or light bulb moment.

Sound Familiar?

How many times have you said “wouldn’t it be great if someone did this or did that”?? Well, if you have then that was probably God telling you that’s your purpose. What’s stopping you from doing it? Why can’t you implement the idea you just thought of? From something small such as I wish someone would help old people cross the road to build a school in Malawi. Whatever your calling is, it will require time for you to build the necessary skill set, however, once identified you need to begin working towards it.
Most, not all purposes will be centred around your passions or character strengths. Not all purposes are going to change the world, some may be minimal or revolve around one person. But what they all have in common is you need to call on God for his guidance and empowerment.

To conclude

What I’m trying to say is God has a plan for our lives, and it’s a plan he wants us to action. The same way you will write a business plan and implement it is how we need to implement God’s plan for our lives. You also need to be open minded, willing and tenacious.
